ion exchange

Ion exchange is used to purify water by passing it through ion exchange resins (typically bead-like and spherical in shape) where ions from the water are exchanged for ions fixed to the resins; the two most common forms of ion exchange are softening and deionization (Electrodeionization would be included here and in "Membrane Treatment" and "Electric Current Treatment")
